TRFMA is working to protect our community from Billions in damages
If the 1997 New Year’s Flood happened today, it would cause an estimated $2.5 billion in damages to our region.
Creating a flood-resilient community
The Truckee River Flood Management Authority (TRFMA or โturf-maโ for short) works to reduce the devastating impacts of flooding along the Truckee River by building infrastructure and managing the floodplain to reduce flood damages, safeguard public health, and create a more resilient community.

A Plan to Manage Flooding from the Truckee River
TRFMA ‘s overall plan to mitigate flooding on the Truckee River is called the Meadows Flood Project. This plan uses a series of levees, berms, floodwalls, and wetland terraces that work interdependently to protect our community from the devastating impacts of flooding.
